HACKED SITE? HERE'S WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
A hacked website costs you twice: once in lost business while it's down or defaced, and again in the trust and search rankings that erode every day it stays infected. Google blacklists compromised sites quickly — and being flagged with "This site may be hacked" can cut your traffic overnight.
We're an IT and cyber security company, so we treat a hacked website like the security incident it is: contain, clean, restore, then close the hole the attackers used. You get your site back — and it comes back harder to hack than before.
1. Assess & Contain
We identify the infection, take the pressure off (maintenance mode if needed), and preserve evidence of how the attackers got in.
2. Clean & Restore
Malware removed from files and database, backdoors closed, and a clean version of your site restored — from backup where available.
3. Blacklist Removal
We submit the cleaned site to Google for review and clear "This site may be hacked" and browser malware warnings.
4. Harden & Prevent
Credentials rotated, software patched, security hardening applied, and backups configured — so the same attack doesn't work twice.
AFTER THE CLEANUP: STAYING CLEAN
Almost every hacked small business site we see got there the same way: outdated software and no one watching. Once your site is clean, a maintenance plan keeps it patched, monitored, and backed up, and secure Australian hosting adds malware scanning and daily backups underneath. For a real-world walkthrough of a recovery, read what we did when a client's site went dark.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I know if my website has been hacked?
Common signs: Google shows "This site may be hacked" or a red warning page, visitors get redirected to spam sites, strange pages or products appear, your host suspends the account, or customers report antivirus warnings. If you see any of these, act quickly — the longer malware sits, the more damage it does to your search rankings and reputation.
How long does hacked website repair take?
Most cleanups are completed within one to two business days. If Google has blacklisted the site, the review after cleanup typically takes a few more days. We prioritise getting a clean version of your site back online first, then complete hardening and blacklist removal.
Will my site get hacked again after cleanup?
Not if the entry point is closed. Cleanup alone isn’t enough — we identify how the attackers got in, patch it, change all credentials, and harden the site. Pairing the repair with an ongoing maintenance plan keeps it patched so the same door doesn’t reopen.
Can you fix a hacked site you didn’t build or host?
Yes. Most hacked sites we repair are on other hosts and were built by other developers. We need admin and hosting access; from there we can assess, clean, and restore regardless of who built it.
My host suspended my website — can you help?
Yes. Hosts suspend compromised sites to stop malware spreading. We work with your host to get access, clean the infection, and provide the evidence they need to lift the suspension.
What if I don’t have a backup?
We can usually still recover the site by cleaning the infected files and database directly. If the damage is severe, we’ll discuss rebuild options honestly before any work starts — and set up proper backups so this never happens again.
